Sir Sacheverell Sitwell Plaque unveiled by Sir Reresby Sitwell, son of Sacheverell on the 15th November 2004, the107th anniversary of his birth.
Sacheverell Sitwell travelled widely in pursuit of material for more than 100 books on art, architecture, music and travel, together with his siblings on their literary presentations. Described by his brother, Osbert in, Great Morning, (the third volume of his autobiography, Left Hand, Right Hand!), before the First World War as 'a tall figure, broad shouldered, thin, with an unusual grace...'. The building, known in the 19th Century as Belvoir House, 5 Belvoir Terrace, became the home of Sir George and Lady Ida Sitwell in 1893. As the plaque records, it also became the birthplace of Sacheverell. Earlier, his sister Edith had been born at Woodend on 7th September 1887 and Osbert in London on 7th December 1892.
